Indonesia invests $45 million in off-grid PV systems
09.04.2014: Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources intends to allocate 510 billion IDR ($45.2 million) for the installation of 133 grid-off PV systems across the country in 2014. According to local newspaper The Jakarta Post, of the 133 PV projects 31 will be developed in outer islands, 27 in border areas and 75 in isolated areas. The combined capacity of the PV systems will reach 6 MW. In November 2013, Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources issued an RfP for up to 140 MW of PV power to be installed across the country. The ministry planned to award FIT contracts for up to 80 PV projects ranging in size from 1 to 6 MW through a reverse bidding process. The results of the RfP were due to be announced in December, with projects being built over the following 6 months. Most of the capacity is expected to be built in the eastern part of the country, in Papua, West Papua, Maluku, Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara. According to the country’s renewable energy directorate general, Indonesia had a cumulative installed PV capacity of 59 MW at the end of October 2013. © PHOTON
